Observational Study at Tap Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant of Walailak University by 3rd Year Chemical Engineering and Pharmaceutical Chemistry Students

On March 2nd, 2023, the 3rd year students of the Chemical Engineering and Pharmaceutical Chemistry program at the School of Engineering and Technology in Walailak University were given the unique opportunity to visit the tap water and wastewater treatment plant on campus, led by the esteemed Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vipawee Dechapanya. The students were warmly welcomed by the knowledgeable staff of the Walailak University tap water plant, who generously shared their expertise in preparing raw water for tap water production, the tap water production process itself, water quality control, and the university’s wastewater treatment system.

This visit to the tap water and wastewater treatment plant was a key part of the Environmental Course curriculum, aimed at giving students a deeper understanding of the impact of environmental pollution, as well as providing insights into environmental standards and requirements, sources and characteristics of industrial wastewater and treatment methods, sources of air pollution, and the process of controlling particles and releasing air pollution. In addition, the visit provided a valuable opportunity to learn about hazardous waste and disposal, with the goal of applying this knowledge to future on-site operational experiences, and ultimately, preparing the students for their future cooperative education.

The Department of Chemical Engineering and Pharmaceutical Chemistry is incredibly grateful to the Walailak University water supply and wastewater treatment plant lecturers for providing such an informative and engaging tour of the tap water and wastewater treatment process to the 3rd year students. We eagerly anticipate our next visit to the tap water and wastewater treatment plant at Walailak University, and are excited to continue deepening our knowledge of environmental engineering and its applications.
