From the Engineering Classroom to an International Leadership Forum: Two Walailak University Students Join iFUTURE 2026 in Malaysia

Two students from the Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence programme at Walailak University’s School of Engineering and Technology, Mr. Chutiphon Phromdi and Mr. Krit Phonchanthuek, participated in the International Young Future Leaders Summit (iFUTURE) 2026, held from 11 to 13 October 2026 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event offered opportunities to explore leadership concepts and exchange perspectives and cultures with students from various countries.

Both students are currently undertaking cooperative education placements at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Malaysia. Their participation extended their learning beyond professional practice to include communication, collaboration, and an understanding of international social contexts. These experiences contribute to their preparation for future careers in engineering and technology.

iFUTURE 2026 is an international youth leadership development forum that brings together students from universities in Malaysia and abroad. Participants explored leadership perspectives through exchanges with government representatives, members of parliament, and distinguished speakers. The event also provided opportunities to build connections with fellow students from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, including Thailand, Yemen, Sudan, Syria, Somalia, China, India, and Vietnam.

Learning in a multicultural environment offers valuable opportunities to consider different viewpoints, listen with understanding, and communicate appropriately across contexts. Participants also had opportunities to use English to exchange ideas and develop relationships with international peers. Such experiences can help strengthen confidence and adaptability—skills relevant to academic study, professional placements, and future teamwork.

For students in Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, technical knowledge provides an essential foundation for professional practice. However, working in technology also requires the ability to explain ideas, exchange information, and collaborate with people from different disciplines. Participation in an international leadership forum broadens students’ understanding of how engineering expertise connects with interpersonal skills and awareness of societal needs.

Taking part in the summit during their overseas cooperative education placements also highlights the value of experiential learning. The students had opportunities to learn both within a professional environment and through encounters with people in new settings. Experiences beyond the classroom complement academic learning by supporting the development of knowledge, social skills, and an openness to continued learning. They also provide insights that students can reflect on and apply to their educational and career goals.

The School of Engineering and Technology at Walailak University commends both students for embracing opportunities to develop their potential and engage in international learning. Their participation in iFUTURE 2026 demonstrates how cooperative education experiences can extend into leadership development and cross-cultural networking.

The School remains committed to encouraging students to learn through practical experiences in Thailand and abroad, alongside the development of academic knowledge and professional skills. These opportunities help prepare future engineers to adapt, collaborate effectively, and apply their expertise constructively in diverse settings.
