Walailak University’s School of Engineering and Technology Supports Thailand’s Semiconductor Workforce Development, Connecting Expertise with Southern Thailand

The School of Engineering and Technology at Walailak University contributed to advancing knowledge in high technology through the knowledge transfer event “EMPowering the Future of Semiconductor in Thailand,” held on 12–13 October 2026 at Prasarnsook Villa Beach Resort, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. Associate Professor Dr. Monthian Sereesit, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, presided over the opening ceremony.

The event formed part of the 2026 Skills and Expertise Development Project for Manpower in the Semiconductor and Advanced Electronics Industry in Thailand. It brought together expertise and experience from multiple institutions to promote learning and help prepare personnel for technology industries of the future.

Semiconductors are fundamental components of modern electronics and everyday technologies. Their applications range from computers, communication devices, and control systems to electric vehicles, automation, and hardware supporting artificial intelligence. Developing knowledge in this field therefore connects multiple engineering disciplines and provides an essential foundation for personnel to understand, apply, and further develop technology. Semiconductor education also supports readiness for technological change and the evolving skills required by industry.

A key feature of the event was the opportunity to learn from specialists representing a broad range of academic and technical backgrounds. The advertised programme featured speakers from Khon Kaen University, Thammasat University, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Prince of Songkla University, Rajamangala University of Technology Isan’s Khon Kaen Campus, Ubon Ratchathani University, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, and the Thai Microelectronics Center. This diversity of expertise offered participants broader perspectives on semiconductors and advanced electronics.

Hosting an advanced technology learning event in Nakhon Si Thammarat also holds significance for educational opportunities in the region. It connects specialised knowledge and expert experience with Southern Thailand, creating opportunities for participants to learn, exchange ideas, and explore the relationship between engineering knowledge and technological development. Access to diverse learning resources is an important foundation for continuous skills development and may inspire further academic interests.

For Walailak University’s School of Engineering and Technology, participation in the event aligns with its educational role in developing engineering personnel and promoting learning connected to modern technology. Semiconductor knowledge intersects with electronic circuits, electrical systems, computer systems, materials, and manufacturing processes. Engagement with experts from different institutions offers opportunities to explore these interdisciplinary connections and consider how relevant insights could inform future teaching and skills development activities.

Beyond knowledge transfer, the event provided a setting for people from different organisations to meet and exchange experiences. Such interactions can serve as a foundation for academic networks. Sharing perspectives on essential skills and approaches to learning can help stakeholders identify opportunities for workforce development. Translating these connections into future educational, research, or innovation collaborations will require continued engagement among the organisations involved.

“EMPowering the Future of Semiconductor in Thailand” was therefore a valuable platform linking engineering education with advanced technological development while enabling Nakhon Si Thammarat to participate in the exchange of semiconductor expertise. Opportunities of this kind represent a step towards preparing personnel with strong foundations, adaptability, and a commitment to long-term skills development.

The School of Engineering and Technology at Walailak University extends its appreciation to all speakers, participating organisations, and attendees for sharing their knowledge and experience. Their contributions supported a collaborative learning environment in semiconductors and advanced electronics, helping lay the groundwork for the continued development of Thailand’s engineering and technology workforce.
