On January 17, 2024, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM, the International Affairs Center facilitated collaborative discussions between the School of Engineering and Technology and the School of Information Science at Walailak University, and Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM), University of Applied Sciences, Germany.
Representatives from both institutions presented information about their respective faculties, outlining frameworks for research collaboration and personnel and student exchanges. THM, led by Prof. Dr. Rahamatullah Khondoker, a professor of business informatics in the Faculty of Mathematics, and Dr. Julia Bocher from the International Affairs Office, proposed a memorandum of understanding for joint cooperation. The collaboration aims to foster research partnerships, staff, and student exchanges. Additionally, if the memorandum is signed, joint applications for scholarships from the German government, such as the Erasmus program and scholarships from the German Academic Exchange Services, will be possible.
However, for student exchanges, Walailak University students applying must demonstrate English proficiency at the B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and cover various semester fees, including transportation within the university, sports center fees, library services, and others, totaling approximately 300 euros per semester (about 6 months). Both faculties have obtained a preliminary framework for cooperation and plan to further discuss details in subsequent meetings.
Prof. Dr. Rahamatullah Khondoker is scheduled to visit Walailak University from February 15 to 17, 2024, to continue discussions and explore possibilities for future collaboration. The International Affairs Center will assist in coordinating various aspects to facilitate ongoing discussions and expand cooperation to European countries in the future.
