On Tuesday, November 14, 2023, Associate Professor Dr. Kittipong Kunchariyakun, the school member of the Civil Engineering program, accompanied second-year Civil Engineering students from the School of Engineering and Technology, Walailak University, on an educational visit to Siam Master Concrete Limited (SICON) in Nakhon Si Thammarat. The purpose was to provide insights into the vision of civil engineers as part of the Civil Engineering Materials course.
The course curriculum at Walailak University emphasizes a blend of classroom learning and real-world practice to facilitate experiences and self-development in the professional field. The teaching methodology integrates theory with practical applications, such as in courses like Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, and Geotechnical Engineering for Civil Engineers.
The aim of this specific course is to acquaint students with construction materials and their practical applications. However, in the current construction industry, there has been significant technological advancement in material production to keep pace with modern requirements. Witnessing practical operations is vital to enhance understanding beyond classroom teachings.
SICON is a company that produces precast concrete floor slabs and implements various new technologies in production. Therefore, the visit to SICON aimed to deepen students’ understanding and enhance their knowledge beyond the classroom environment.
