Walailak University and School of Engineering and Technology Welcome Visiting Professor Prof. Dr. Samir Kumar Khanal for Higher Education System Transformation Project – Fiscal Year 2023 (Reinventing University 2023)

On May 23, 2023, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, Acting President of Walailak University, together with the management team, warmly welcomed visiting professors to the university. The distinguished guests included Prof. Dr. Samir Kumar Khanal, Editor of Bioresource Technology from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa (UHM), and Prof. Dr. Sumate Chaiprapat from Prince of Songkla University. The purpose of their visit was to foster collaboration in developing the potential of researchers and promoting the exchange of research experiences with international experts, thereby benefiting the university’s research development.
This collaborative initiative received funding as part of Thailand’s higher education system transformation project, “Reinventing University 2023.” The project, led by Dr. Wichitpan Rongwong from the School of Engineering and Technology, focused on the theme of “Visiting Professor: Agricultural Waste and Biomass Valorization to High-Value Bioproducts.”
In the afternoon, Prof. Dr. Samir Kumar Khanal engaged with undergraduate and graduate students from the School of Engineering and Technology, listening to their research projects and providing valuable feedback to enhance the quality of their work.
Prof. Dr. Samir Kumar Khanal is the Head of the Environment and Bioenergy Research Group at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. He specializes in research areas such as Anaerobic Digestion, Fungal Fermentation, Aquaponics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Nanobubbles in wastewater treatment. With more than 90 articles published in the Scopus database since 2017, his research has made a significant impact. He has an impressive Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) value of 2.66, with over 190 articles published throughout his career, accumulating over 10,000 references and an H-index value of 50.
