SET Walailak Hosts “Winter Course & Green Tourism” for TUIT Students from Uzbekistan, Advancing Data Engineering for Sustainability

From 17–20 April 2026, the School of Engineering and Technology, Walailak University (SET Walailak) organized the “Winter Course & Green Tourism” program to welcome 11 exchange students from Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT), Uzbekistan. The program provided an intensive academic and cultural learning experience designed to strengthen international collaboration while promoting the application of engineering and digital technologies to sustainability challenges.

The program was conducted under the theme “Engineering the Green Journey: Python for Sustainability,” integrating knowledge in Data Engineering with concepts of sustainable development. Participants engaged in both theoretical learning and hands-on practice, with a focus on using Python programming to analyze environmental and tourism-related data. The activities also emphasized data interpretation and evidence-based decision-making in the context of sustainability.

One of the key learning topics was the assessment of carbon footprints generated by tourism activities. Through this process, students gained a better understanding of how different activities contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and how data can be used to identify practical strategies for carbon reduction. The program also introduced approaches toward achieving Net-Zero targets, allowing students to explore the role of engineering, data, and technology in addressing global environmental challenges.

In addition to classroom-based learning, the TUIT students participated in a field study in Krabi Province, where they explored approaches to ecotourism, natural resource management, and sustainable area development. The field experience enabled students to connect academic concepts with real-world contexts and better understand the relationship between engineering, technology, the environment, tourism, and local communities.

The program also created opportunities for students to exchange ideas, experiences, and cultural perspectives. Beyond academic development, participants strengthened important skills in communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and the practical application of knowledge to real-life problems.

The “Winter Course & Green Tourism” program reflects the commitment of the School of Engineering and Technology, Walailak University, to expanding international academic networks and promoting globally oriented learning experiences. It also supports the development of students who are prepared to work in a rapidly changing world where technology, innovation, and sustainability are increasingly interconnected.

The School of Engineering and Technology, Walailak University, congratulates all 11 students from Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT) on successfully completing the program. It is hoped that the knowledge, experiences, and friendships gained throughout the activities will serve as a strong foundation for their future academic and professional development and inspire them to create technologies and innovations that contribute to a more sustainable society.
