The School of Engineering and Technology, Walailak University, organized an activity under the project “Engineering with Traditional Wisdom” to promote integrated learning that connects engineering knowledge with local wisdom and community culture. The initiative aims to provide students with experiential learning opportunities while raising awareness of the important role engineers play in sustainable social development.
Through this activity, students were given the opportunity to engage directly with local communities, allowing them to develop analytical thinking, teamwork skills, and the ability to apply engineering knowledge to solve real-world problems. The program also encouraged the development of innovative ideas that align with local contexts, strengthening both academic competencies and students’ understanding of social and cultural dimensions.
As part of the project, students presented their work and participated in an innovation concept competition inspired by community wisdom. The results were as follows:
1st Prize: Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering Program
2nd Prize: Mechanical and Robotics Engineering Program
3rd Prize: Petrochemical and Polymer Engineering Program
The event was filled with creativity and the energy of a new generation determined to combine engineering knowledge with cultural foundations to develop practical solutions suited to local contexts and future development.
This project represents another important step in strengthening the relationship between the university and local communities while fostering ethical awareness and social responsibility among students. It aims to cultivate well-rounded engineers equipped with strong academic knowledge, professional skills, and a strong public spirit—key qualities for driving Thailand toward a sustainable future.
