Electrical Engineering and Technology Students Engage in the 13th Low Voltage System Development Volunteer Camp

Under the banner of Electrical Engineering, the School of Engineering and Technology at Walailak University orchestrated a meaningful endeavor – the 13th Low Voltage Power System Restoration Project of Religious Places, also known as the Low Voltage System Development Volunteer Camp. This endeavor unfolded at Wat Samsaram in Tha Sala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, spanning from July 23, 2023, to August 19, 2023. The student team took on the task of designing and implementing electrical systems within the temple premises, all while extending support through food offerings and sangkhathan.

Challenges posed by the prevailing COVID-19 situation had a transformative impact on the usual format of activities. Elements such as accepting donations and dividing responsibilities among students in different academic years needed to be adjusted. As a result, the working groups were organized into smaller units and their activities were distributed over several days to mitigate operational congestion.

Building upon the success of previous initiatives, including the 12th Low Voltage System Development Volunteer Camp in the preceding academic year, which focused on restoring electrical systems in flood-affected religious spaces such as Wat Khao Noi, Tambon Ka-Rae, Amphoe Nopphitam, Nakhon Si Thammarat, this camp further fortified the connection between academic learning and social responsibility. It demonstrated how the integration of academic knowledge with the preservation of arts, culture, and community well-being can yield impactful outcomes.

In the academic year 2023, the Electrical Engineering Program undertook a noble mission – to renovate, enhance, and develop religious sites within local communities. The assessment team’s primary focus was on Wat Samsaram, located in Hua Taphan Subdistrict, Tha Sala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The basic electrical infrastructure at this site had deteriorated significantly. In addition to the communal advantages, this endeavor also served as a platform for students to hone their professional acumen. By facing authentic issues and devising practical solutions, electrical engineering students gained invaluable hands-on experience.

Moreover, this initiative fostered a strong rapport between the university and its immediate environment. The practical application of knowledge gained through participation in such projects will not only contribute to the students’ academic pursuits but also enrich their understanding of arts, culture, and societal responsibilities. Through this collaborative effort, students contribute to the preservation of Thai arts and culture, ensuring their endurance for generations to come, all while nurturing a sense of ethical responsibility and sustainable cultural appreciation.
