School of Engineering and Technology Garners “Best Practice” Award at Smile & Smart Center Showcase 2023

August 24, 2023: Professor Dr. Sombat Thomrongthanyawong, the Acting President of Walailak University, presided over the commencement of the enlightening learning exchange activity centered around the supervision and empowerment of students for their holistic growth, encapsulated as “Brilliant, Good, Happy” – Smile & Smart Showcase 2023: Inspiring Minds, Igniting Ideas. This dynamic event aimed to identify and share best practices in student care and empowerment, fostering an environment of enhanced efficiency and efficacy within educational institutions. More than 1,000 administrators, faculty members, staff, and students congregated at the vibrant Bota Market within the premises of Walailak University to partake in this insightful event.

The accolade of the “Best Practice” award in the category of student care and empowerment was bestowed upon the School of Engineering and Technology. The Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Digital Technology played a pivotal role in orchestrating a booth dedicated to public relations activities, elucidating the implementation and outcomes of the “smart, good, happy” student care and empowerment system, which has been operational throughout the fiscal year 2023. This innovative system not only imparts students with an understanding of university life but also equips them with invaluable insights into their future prospects.

Associate Professor Dr. Worawut Somsak disclosed that Walailak University embarked on the “Smile & Smart Center” project in the academic year 2018, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering the development of students who embody attributes of intelligence, ethics, and happiness. Tailored to the unique identity and context of the institution, a gamut of operational strategies were employed to amplify the efficacy of molding students into well-rounded individuals characterized by their virtuousness and joyfulness. The establishment of a robust network was instrumental in expert referrals and concrete student support. The overarching mission of the university is to produce graduates who are both “good and skilled,” in alignment with the demands of the contemporary era, enabling them to thrive as 21st-century citizens possessing the requisite competencies and qualities.

Associate Professor Dr. Worawut further underscored that this learning exchange activity stands as an invaluable opportunity for all educational establishments to congregate and present their endeavors in student care and capacity building. This collective sharing of experiences serves as a conduit for identifying best practices that enhance the efficiency of student development efforts. Additionally, it propagates the ethos of fostering “smart, good, happy” students throughout the entire academic community—students, faculty, and staff alike.
