Students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Walailak University won the Best Steel Thesis SSI 4YE 2019

The students have conducted the project, entitled “Behavior of steel beams composed of rolled steel sheets for thin floors”. This group of students received the Best of the Best Award for Structural Steel Improvement (SSI) Project for Young Engineers or SSI4YE for 2019. They have been receiving a total scholarship of 50,000 baht to develop their innovation project. This contest intended to transfer knowledge in the efficient use of steel structures to young engineers at the SSI Steel Construction Virtual Forum 2020 online platform. There were 200 people interested in the seminar.

The Sahaviriya Steel Industries Public Company Limited or “SSI” continues to move forward with determination to support students to gain skill and knowledge in construction using steel structure. The company transfers knowledge and experience through this competition.
On November 18, 2020, SSI organized a competition stage for the students. The final four teams compete in the Best of the Best Senior Project Award 2019 round, organized in a new way using the SSI Steel Construction Virtual Forum 2020, the company’s annual steel structure seminar. The experts’ panel consisted of the Director of the Iron and Steel Institute of Thailand (ISIT), Director of the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), and representatives from the company Sahaviriya Steel Industries Public Company Limited. The expert panel determined that the Best of the Best Senior Project Award 2019 this year is Walailak University in the topic “Behavior of steel beams composed of rolled steel sheets for thin floors in usage and extreme conditions.” The member teams comprise Ms. Prusapa Bangriang and Ms. Tuveku Marini Toosoh which the advisor is Asst. Prof. Dr. Thanongsak Imjai. This project is the most excellent work, which received unanimous votes under the project’s conditions and criteria and received 50,000 baht and a plaque scholarship.
