Assistant Professor Dr. Niratsai Rakmak, a lecturer in the Chemical Engineering and Pharmaceutical Chemistry Program, School of Engineering and Technology, Walailak University, visited New Biodiesel Co., Ltd. in Surat Thani Province to implement the ‘Technology to Industry Convergence’ project, which focuses on the application of research to the industrial sector in a tangible way, especially the application of the results from the research on “High-temperature biomass charcoal production from waste materials in palm oil mills” in the production process of entrepreneurs in the palm oil industry. The main objective of this project is to increase product value and reduce waste from the production process, which is an important issue in increasing the potential and efficiency of the palm oil industry in Thailand.
This research is very important in creating innovations that help reduce environmental problems and increase efficiency in the production process by using waste materials from palm oil extraction plants, such as palm fruit bunches, palm fibers, palm shells, and other waste materials as raw materials for producing high-quality biomass charcoal. This process not only reduces the amount of waste from production, but also adds value to the waste materials. The produced biomass charcoal has special properties, such as high heat, which can be used in various industries or sold in both domestic and international markets. In addition to applying research in the industrial sector, Asst. Prof. Dr. Niratisai Rakmak also organized training activities and knowledge transfer to palm oil processing entrepreneurs from all over the country on February 19, 2024 at the Diamond Hotel, Surat Thani Province, focusing on providing knowledge on adding value to waste from the palm oil processing process to apply as soil conditioners and high-heat biomass charcoal. In addition, this training also helps enhance knowledge and skills for entrepreneurs, enabling them to apply it in actual operations effectively, which will be an important factor in raising production standards in the palm oil industry at the regional level. The implementation of this project is an important step in linking academic research and industrial applications. The success of this project not only adds value to palm oil products, but also reduces environmental problems caused by waste in the production process, making the use of resources more efficient.
It also affects the development of the community economy and strengthens the palm oil industry in the country, enabling it to compete sustainably in the global market.
