Walailak University extends its congratulations to the research team that has received continued research funding from the Program Management Unit for Competitiveness (PMUC) for Fiscal Year 2026 for the research project entitled “New Industry Development: Processed Oil Palm Wood Products from Residual Oil Palm Biomass in Plantations.” The project is led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nirundorn Matan as the principal investigator.
The research team consists of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nirundorn Matan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Narumol Matan, Dr. Choosak Ritthipetch, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sathaporn Jantawee, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Sajjapan Leelatanon. The team brings together expertise in biomaterials, processing technology, and innovation development to transform residual biomass from oil palm plantations into value-added products with practical applications.
The project aims to develop effective approaches for utilizing oil palm biomass, which is widely available in Southern Thailand, and converting it into processed oil palm wood products for further industrial applications. In addition to creating added value from agricultural residues, the project also contributes to waste reduction, efficient resource utilization, and the promotion of a sustainable bio-based economy.
The continued research funding from PMUC for Fiscal Year 2026 reflects the potential and capability of Walailak University researchers to develop research that addresses economic, industrial, and regional resource challenges. The project also demonstrates the University’s commitment to advancing research outcomes toward practical utilization and creating tangible value for the country.
The research is supported through collaboration involving the Center of Excellence in Wood and Biomaterials and the Essential Oil and Bioactive Compounds Innovation Center, Walailak University. Both centers are committed to developing research and innovation that respond to the needs of society, communities, and industry, while promoting the sustainable and efficient utilization of biological resources.
