Students from the Civil Engineering Program, School of Engineering and Technology, Walailak University, achieved an outstanding result at the national level by receiving the Third Honorable Mention in the 18th Popsicle Stick Structure Competition, held as part of the “Thailand Civil Engineering Structural Academic Creativity Competition 2026.” The competition was organized for the prestigious Royal Trophy graciously bestowed by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
The competition was held from 12–13 February 2026 at the Faculty of Engineering Practice Building, Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin, Salaya Campus. The event attracted students from 42 educational institutions, with a total of 98 teams participating from across Thailand. It served as an important national platform for students to demonstrate their abilities in structural design, analysis, engineering problem-solving, and the practical application of engineering knowledge.
The 2026 competition consisted of three categories: the 18th Popsicle Stick Structure Competition, the 10th Wood and Steel Structure Competition, and the 6th Bamboo Chopstick Structure Competition. The event was designed to encourage students to integrate knowledge from different areas of study, develop analytical and planning skills, solve engineering problems under specific constraints, and strengthen teamwork. It also provided opportunities to build academic networks and relationships among students and educational institutions throughout the country.
The Walailak University Civil Engineering student team that received the Third Honorable Mention in the 18th Popsicle Stick Structure Competition consisted of:

Participation in the competition provided the students with valuable hands-on engineering experience. They were required to work through several stages, including problem analysis, structural design, planning the construction process, assembling the structure, and testing its performance and strength under the conditions specified by the competition. These activities allowed the students to apply knowledge in mechanics, structural engineering, and civil engineering principles to a practical challenge.
In addition to strengthening their technical knowledge, the competition helped students develop essential professional skills, including analytical thinking, decision-making under limitations, problem-solving, attention to detail, communication, and teamwork. These competencies are highly important for future civil engineers working in real professional environments.
This achievement not only represents the dedication and capabilities of the participating students, but also reflects the quality of education provided by the Civil Engineering Program, School of Engineering and Technology, Walailak University. The program places strong emphasis on experiential learning and encourages students to apply classroom knowledge through practical activities, academic projects, and national-level competitions.
