Overview of the Program

The Doctor of Philosophy Program in Engineering (Ph.D.) is the course established by the School of Engineering and Technology at Walailak University. The aim of these courses is to develop the University’s graduated studies, including further development of existing graduated studies as well as the development of the new International Programs, and to ensure their quality. These programs continually reviews individual studies, performs general evaluations and develops strategies with a view to setting up and maintaining a framework of resources necessary for the University’s research programs.

Objective

  1. To acquire a profound knowledge of their research field and its social significance;
  2. To obtain the necessary skills to independently apply the engineering methods of their field and produce new knowledge;
  3. To obtain a thorough knowledge of the research methods and development of their research field;
  4. To possess a sufficient level of expertise in the philosophy of engineering and other areas related to their research field.

Duration of the Program

Three academic years (9 Semesters) for Type 1.1
Four academic years (12 Semesters) for Type 1.2

Program of the Study

Thesis presentation and report will be performed in English under curriculum type 1.1 and 1.2 formats.
The Doctor of Philosophy Program in Engineering comprises of 60 and 90 ECTS credits for curriculum type 1.1 and 1.2, respectively.

Admission requirements(Eligible criteria)

Requirement for Application

Applicants must meet the qualification as specified in each program as follows.

Type 1.1: Holding a Master Degree in Engineering or equivalent in related program, and published scientific paper in national or international journal or at least having work experience in research, with approval depended upon the consent of the curriculum administrative committee.

Type 1.2: Holding a Bachelor Degree in Engineering or equivalent in related programs, and having GPA of at least 3.50 from the maximum of 4.00, or two published scientific papers in national or international journal, with approval depended upon the consent of the curriculum administrative committee.

Note: Applicants who meet the Type 1.2 requirements above with the first-class honors degree, or the class’s top 10 students, may eligible to study the Type 1.1 automatically.

Language Proficiency Requirement

Applicants from a country where English is not the first language must enclose English Proficiency test result. The result must not be more than two years. The following English Proficiency tests are accepted for graduate admission, and a minimum score should be as follow: TOEFL ITP 500 or TOEFL CBT 173 or TOEFL IBT 61 or IELTS 5.5 or WU-TEP 74 or CEFR B2.

Tuition Fee and Funding

International student: 115,000 Thai Baht/semester
Thai student: 90,000 Thai Baht/semester

Selection Process

All received applications will be assessed and ranked against the eligible criteria for the available quota by the program committee. Outcome will be circulated after the selection process is finalized.

Graduation Criteria

Two published papers or at least accepted for publishing, in international scientific journals.
