Today (July 26, 2024), Walailak University (WU), through its Center for Educational Services, in collaboration with the Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT), organized the event “Get to Know TCAS68 First with Walailak University.” This event aimed to provide guidance to high school students across southern Thailand and career guidance teachers, ensuring they received accurate information to apply for higher education. Over 2,600 students and teachers from 56 schools across 12 southern provinces participated in the event held at the main auditorium of the Thaiburi Building and the group of lecture halls.
On this occasion, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, Acting President of Walailak University, presided over the event and delivered a special lecture on “Aiming High: Achieving Success and Happiness in Your Studies.” Additionally, a special talk titled “TCAS68 Admissions System” was given by Associate Professor Dr. Chalee Charoenlapnopparat, Manager of the TCAS System, CUPT.
Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong welcomed the students and career guidance teachers from various schools across the 12 southern provinces who attended the event. This was the first time that Associate Professor Dr. Chalee Charoenlapnopparat, TCAS Manager of CUPT, delivered a lecture on the TCAS68 admissions system to high school students. The talk attracted significant interest from students. Professor Dr. Sombat expressed his deep appreciation to Dr. Chalee for recognizing the importance of the event and for sharing valuable knowledge with the students. He also emphasized that understanding the correct information is crucial for students to enroll in the right courses at their preferred universities. He extended his gratitude to the Center for Educational Services and all involved in organizing this beneficial event for students aiming to pursue higher education.
Assistant Professor Dr. Neeranat Kaewprasert Rakhangthong, Director of the Center for Educational Services at WU, highlighted the importance of this event. The Center recognized that all high school students in southern Thailand should have a comprehensive understanding of the TCAS system to apply for university admissions effectively. Therefore, they collaborated with CUPT, receiving the honor of having the TCAS system manager personally educate the students from the southern region. The event received an overwhelming response, with over 2,600 students from 12 southern provinces participating, filling the Thaiburi Auditorium to capacity. Additional seating was provided in Lecture Halls 5 and 7 to accommodate the large turnout.
Dr. Neeranat further stated that assisting students from southern Thailand in finding the right courses at their preferred universities is part of the university’s mission. WU has been organizing similar events for three consecutive years. However, this year marks the first time that all 54 academic programs from WU’s Health Sciences, Science and Technology, and Social Sciences groups participated in an Open House event, featuring a curriculum fair. Students had the opportunity to consult with program advisors and academic staff from various courses. Some students even brought their portfolios for guidance from professors in their fields of interest. On September 9, 2024, they will be able to submit their applications.
In the afternoon session, participants explored exhibitions on courses that align with their interests and career aspirations. They also learned about techniques for creating effective portfolios for different programs. The event included mock interviews for Social Sciences, Science, and Technology courses, as well as application submissions for Health Sciences programs. Participants who attended the event were given the privilege to apply for one program free of charge. The event concluded with a Campus Tour, allowing participants to experience the university’s surroundings, including Walailak Park, the Sky Tower, the Cactus Dome, and the sports complex.
The School of Engineering and Technology, with the participation of faculty members and senior students, welcomed the attendees and showcased senior students’ projects. This provided prospective students with a better understanding of the programs and included interviews with students interested in various fields of study.
