On July 5, 2024, Assistant Professor Dr. Montien Setkit, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, and Assistant Professor Dr. Buntoeng Srikarun, Head of the Department of Mechanical and Robotics Engineering, were invited to witness the Cobot competition held in Khon Kaen. They observed the WU-Megabot team’s performance, consisting of third-year mechanical engineering students managed by Assistant Professor Dr. Suppakit Eiadtrong.
The competition was divided into two rounds, each worth 100 points, with an additional bonus of 30 points, totaling 130 points. In the first round on July 4, 2024, the WU-Megabot team scored 90 points, securing a place in the second round.
On July 5, 2024, the WU-Megabot team achieved the best time in the second round without any errors, earning a perfect score of 130 points. This remarkable performance astonished the participants, placing the team first in the second round. Combining the scores from both rounds, the team amassed 220 points, soaring to the fourth position out of 38 teams.
In the final round, where only 5 teams remained from the original 38, the WU-Megabot team, despite not winning the championship, achieved a commendable performance by securing a spot among the top 5 teams. This achievement is particularly impressive, considering the team had a negative score and was eliminated in the first round the previous year. They emerged as a true dark horse in the competition, contending against seasoned favorites and former champions.
Special thanks to Assistant Professor Dr. Suppakit Eiadtrong (Team Manager) for training the students, enabling them to reach the top 5 in this competition. This success is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
