The faculty members from Petrochemical and polymer engineering programs be the invited speakers in the international conference on “WOOD: Natural Building Material of the 21st Century”

Center of Excellent on wood and biomaterials hosted the international conference on “WOOD: Natural Building Material of the 21st Century” during the grand even of Walailak Research Convention 2023 (WRC2023) “Higher Education in the Disruptive Era”. This stated conference was scheduled on March 28, 2023 and available for both onsite and online participation with four joined speakers from Malaysia, Thailand and Austria. The topics which was discussed in the conference were:
Stiffness of Bolted Timber Connection by Dr. Nur Liza Binti Rahim from Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology, University Malaysia Perlis, Malaysia,
Research on Cross Laminated Timber @ Walailak University by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suthon Srivaro from Petrochemical and polymer engineering programs, School of Engineering and Technology, Walailak University, Thailand,
High Performance Rubber Wood by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sureurg Khongtong from Petrochemical and polymer engineering programs, School of Engineering and Technology, Walailak University, Thailand,
Bio-economy and circular economy in wood industry by Raphaela Hellmayr from Institute of Marketing and Innovation, Center for Bioeconomy, Universität für Bodenkultur Wien (BOKU), University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, Austria.

This even was attended by totally 51 participants from both local and international government agency, company, university personnel as well as students. On the conference, the floor was opening for the interchange of knowhow, research experience as well as the research cooperation related to the utilization of wood on building materials which is likely a very high potential issue of the 21st century and in the closed future. This is due to wood could act as a carbon sink as well as a renewable material.

Beside the stated academic conference, Center of Excellent on wood and biomaterials also exhibited their research outputs and prototypes on this particular time, e.g., high efficient drying process of the oil palm wood, sandwich board with oil palm wood core, insulated panel from natural rubber and rubber wood, cross laminated timber from coconut wood, and porous carbon from wood for the supercapacitor.
