Walailak University signed an MOU with Huawei to establish the Huawei ICT Academy project under the School of Engineering and Technology in collaboration with the Center for Digital Technology.

On December 23, 2020, Huawei Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd. signed a memorandum of understanding with Walailak University to enhance students’ ICT skills and prepare them for the job market in the digital age. This academic collaboration is part of the Huawei ICT Academy program that will help develop advanced IT knowledge through practical courses and training.
Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanwong, President of Walailak University, and Mr. Abel Deng, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Technology (Thailand) signed the MOU among the administrators of Walailak University and the executives of Huawei Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd., along with the media, at Hall A, 1st Floor, Walailak University Hospital Medical Center.

The project aims to strengthen the potential of next-generation technology for students, which prepares to support them in the job market in the digital age. Huawei ICT Academy Project is a collaboration between the two parties which objective is to pass on high-level IT knowledge to students through practical training courses. The project also provides internship opportunities in Digital Educational Innovation and transfer knowledge and provides advanced network technology training resources based on Huawei’s more than two decades of ICT industry expertise.

 

For Walailak University students, they will learn through the demonstration of real working situations. These skills can be used for real purposes through network equipment and various  resources in the Huawei ICT Academy project. The students who meet the criteria will have the opportunity to participate in two of Huawei’s primary ICT skills promotion programs, the Huawei ICT Competition and the Huawei Job Fair. After the MOU signing ceremony, Huawei handovers an ethernet router, switch, and IdeaHub smart whiteboard for collaborative learning to the President of Walailak University to support training and incubate a robust learning ecosystem for students.

The Walailak – Huawei ICT Academy is supervised by the School of Engineering and Technology in collaboration with the Digital Technology Center. Therefore, project supervisors have both
academic and practical work, resulting in a combination of theory and practice. The target students are the 3rd and 4th year of IT students. The lesson starts with the training on necessary equipment in networking and Huawei Artificial Intelligence.


At the end of the signing, Mr. Abel Deng, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Technology (Thailand), held a special lecture on digital technology for students in computer engineering courses and
software engineering, the primary target students for Walailak – Huawei ICT Academy.
