Walailak University Research Team Advances Clean Energy Innovation

A research team from Walailak University (WU), in collaboration with partners from the United Kingdom and India, is developing an advanced hybrid solar panel system capable of generating both electricity and heat from sunlight. This system, known as Photovoltaic–Thermal (PVT), represents a significant step forward in renewable energy research.

The PVT system not only produces electricity but also recovers waste heat, which can be used to drive thermochemical cooling systems — a technology that can reduce air conditioning electricity consumption by up to tenfold compared to conventional systems.

The project is led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Kamon Thinsurat from the School of Engineering and Technology, Walailak University. It reflects WU’s strong commitment to advancing clean energy solutions and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in alignment with Thailand’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
