Third-year students from the Civil Engineering Program, School of Engineering and Technology, Walailak University, have earned the Outstanding Award at the 10th TCA Senior Project Award, organized by the Thailand Concrete Association. The competition was held online via Zoom on May 14, 2025.
The award-winning project, titled “Innovative Repair of Cracked Concrete Beams Using Near-Surface Mounted Composite Rods Combined with Post-Tensioning Technique,” was developed by a student team consisting of:
Ms. Piyachat Thongchan
Ms. Sirikan Chalee
Mr. Fazzalhaidar Mama
Mr. Saron Mali
Under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tanongsak Imjai.
The project presents a novel approach to repairing cracked concrete beams by embedding composite rods (such as GFRP) near the concrete surface and applying post-tensioning using a specially designed system developed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tanongsak Imjai. This method enhances the structural strength and extends the service life of existing beams while offering a cost-effective and practical solution for field applications.
Key advantages of this innovation include:
Efficient reinforcement of damaged structures without full demolition
Lower maintenance costs compared to structural replacement
Lightweight, corrosion-resistant materials
Suitability for long-term use in buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure
This achievement reflects the strong potential of Walailak University’s civil engineering students and faculty in creating practical engineering innovations that support sustainable and cost-effective structural repair solutions—preparing them to confidently step into the professional world.
