The School of Engineering and Technology, Walailak University, is hosting the “46th Session of the Council of Engineering Deans of Thailand (1/2025)” and the “Friends Visiting Friends” program from March 20 to 21, 2025, at Walailak University, Nakhon Si Thammarat.


The opening ceremony today (March 20, 2025) was honored by Associate Professor Dr. Mallika Charoensuthasinee, Vice President acting on behalf of the President of Walailak University, who delivered the opening speech. Assistant Professor Dr. Montian Sretkij, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, presented the report, while Associate Professor Dr. Thongchai Fongsamut, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University, and President of the 46th Council of Engineering Deans of Thailand, presided over the event. More than 30 deans, administrators, and faculty members from member institutions participated in the meeting, held at Chor Pradu Conference Room, Chulabhorn Walailak Medical Center Hospital, Walailak University, with additional participation via online platforms.


Strengthening Academic and Industrial Collaboration in Engineering

Associate Professor Dr. Mallika stated that Walailak University has been offering engineering programs since 1998 and currently provides six undergraduate and several graduate programs. The university is committed to producing highly competent graduates who can adapt to technological advancements and national development needs. Additionally, it emphasizes research and academic services to benefit industries and local communities, enhancing competitiveness in the global market.
“Walailak University recognizes the importance of fostering collaboration among academic institutions and industries, both domestically and internationally. As a member of the Council of Engineering Deans of Thailand, we are delighted to welcome executives from network universities. This meeting provides an opportunity for knowledge exchange, strategic discussions, and enhanced cooperation among engineering faculties,” said Associate Professor Dr. Mallika.


Engineering Excellence at Walailak University

The School of Engineering and Technology at Walailak University currently offers the following undergraduate programs:

Civil Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Petrochemical and Polymer Engineering
Mechanical and Robotics Engineering
Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence
Chemical and Pharmaceutical Chemistry Engineering
Graduate programs include the Master of Engineering (International Program) and Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering (International Program).
Recently, on January 22, 2025, Walailak University was ranked in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2025 for Engineering, placing in the 1001–1250 range globally and 9th in Thailand, marking its first-ever ranking in this field.

Objectives of the Meeting

This session of the Council of Engineering Deans of Thailand aims to bring together representatives from 67 member institutions to discuss strategies for advancing engineering education, strengthening academic relationships, and reviewing the progress of the council’s initiatives. A key topic of discussion is the Development of Skills and Expertise in Electric Vehicles in Thailand, which is critical for the nation’s future industrial growth.
This meeting underscores Walailak University’s commitment to becoming a hub for academic excellence and engineering research while driving Thailand’s education system toward global recognition.
