Walailak University (WU), led by Dr. Suthasinee Sangkhum, Assistant to the President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Monthien Sretkij, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kamol Thinsurat, Assistant Dean for International Affairs, Asst. Prof. Kornkot Suwanarat, Head of the Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence Program, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tanongsak Imjai, representing the Civil Engineering Program, attended the Articulation Workshop 1 with the team from Harbin Engineering University (HEU), China. The workshop, held from January 3-5, 2025, at HEU, aimed to develop a 2+2 dual-degree program in Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence (Com&AI).
Key Highlights of the Workshop
- HEU Team: The workshop included representatives from HEU such as Prof. Cai Chengtao, Dean of the College of Intelligent Systems Science and Engineering (CISSE); Prof. Ding Xuezhong, Dean of the College of International Cooperative Education (CICE); Dr. Liu Sijia, Deputy Director of the International Office; and Dr. Liu Zhilin, Associate Dean of CISSE, along with the Thai-Chinese Center for Science and Technology Culture support team.
📚 Progress Milestones
- Curriculum Recognition: HEU acknowledged the foundational courses of WU, especially in mathematics and science, reflecting the university’s academic standards.
- Course Structure Design: Semester-based course structures were established to align with program objectives.
- Tuition Fee Agreement: A tuition fee of 22,000 CNY per year was agreed for the 3rd and 4th years, with an admission requirement of IELTS 5.5.
🔍 Laboratory Visit
The WU delegation toured HEU’s laboratories focusing on AI applications, big data, and machine vision systems. These areas mark the foundation for future collaborative research.

The second workshop is scheduled for February 2025 to finalize learning outcomes and grading criteria. The program is set to launch in September 2025.
