Awesome! Civil Engineering students from Walailak University win “award” in the thesis contest from the Concrete Association of Thailand

On May 21, 2024, the Concrete Association of Thailand announced the results of the 9th Senior Project Award competition for the year 2024. The results showed that 3rd-year civil engineering student teams from the School of Engineering and Technology, Walailak University, were able to win “Honorable Mention” awards, a total of 3 teams, from this competition, with Associate Professor Dr. Thanongsak Imjai as the advisor.

 1) Thesis on the topic “Efficiency of reinforcement of concrete structure under compression force by binding with mesh material and cement composite fabric” Researchers: 1. Mr. Adam Jeha, 2. Ms. Musilhi Samae, and 3. Mr. Suphanat Rakkao

2) Thesis on the topic “Innovation of Composite Reinforced Concrete Railway Sleepers” Researchers: 1. Ms. Thipphaphon Thongdet, 2. Mr. Kongdet Buanoi, 3. Mr. Suraphat Phet Songmuang, and 4. Mr. Wanvildal Waeyuso.

3) Thesis on the topic of “Innovative glowing bench made from recycled concrete that is environmentally friendly” Researchers 1. Ms. Prapassorn Ritkorn 2. Mr. Alongkorn Prachumrat 3. Mr. Tayakorn Boonkaew and 4. Mr. Punnakan Klongkarn Therefore, the Civil Engineering program has organized a study visit project to allow students to visit the process and work system in real workplaces to increase their knowledge and integrate the knowledge gained from both teaching and learning from real workplaces to develop themselves in terms of studying, project or research, including preparation for cooperative education.

The 9th Annual Thesis Competition was organized because concrete is the most widely used construction material and its usage is becoming more and more diverse nowadays. In addition to engineering factors, concrete usage also has to take into account social, economic and environmental impacts. New-generation engineers who work with concrete must have more comprehensive knowledge than previous generations of engineers. Therefore, the skill of knowledge development is a very important skill for new-generation civil engineers. To promote the development of such skills among students in Thailand, the Concrete Association of Thailand has organized the Thesis Competition to be a part of stimulating those involved to see the importance of this issue and to encourage students who can produce good thesis works to be able to apply their knowledge in their work.

The Civil Engineering Program of Walailak University has submitted thesis work of students. The award is a good demonstration of the knowledge, ability of students and the quality of teaching of the program.

Associate Professor Dr. Tanongsak holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nottingham, a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from Cardiff University, and a PhD in Structural Engineering from the University of Sheffield.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tanongsak Imjai is a civil engineer who specializes in building analysis and inspection, structural reinforcement work due to usage, material deterioration, or various types of disasters, including structural design for infrastructure projects, using international design standards such as ACI, BS standard, Eurocode, Model code, together with domestic standards such as TISI and TISI in structural analysis and design, and using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) computer models to analyze structures and examine the actual load-bearing behavior of structures in civil engineering research studies, such as examining the behavior of concrete reinforcement failures using FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastics) materials, including the application of construction innovations to civil engineering.
