From May 8th to 9th, 2024, the faculty and academics of the Petrochemical and Polymer Engineering program at the School of Engineering and Technology, Walailak University, organized an enriching out-of-classroom learning experience for their students. This field trip took place from May 7th to 10th, 2024, and included visits to industrial plants and departments in Samut Prakan and Bangkok. The goal was to provide students with firsthand experience in the production processes and property testing of various petrochemical and polymer products.
The itinerary began with a visit to IRPC Public Company Limited, where students attended a lecture on the “Polyolefins Production Process” and had the chance to see the Floating Solar Project. They then visited MCC Biochem Co., Ltd., where they learned about the production process, inspection, quality assurance, and potential uses of bioplastic products. The trip concluded with a visit to the GC Chemical Experience, where students received a lecture on PTTGC’s petrochemical business group, including its establishment, history, and a virtual factory tour.
This study tour was organized to give petrochemical and polymer engineering students practical insights into the processes and work systems in real-world workplaces. It aimed to enhance their knowledge by integrating classroom learning with real-world applications. This experience is expected to aid in their academic development, project work, research, and preparation for cooperative education.
